Vaudeville: stage entertainment consisting of various acts.
A bistro that suits it’s name; Vaudeville is located in a historical downtown Fredricksburg building. The small table set outside are the curtains drawing you into the stage behind.
Once you walk in you are presented with a choice, audience participation if you will, continue forward into the world of delecate, classic, yet bold home furnishings with a touch of laughter if you look closely, or take the stairs down into bistro wonderland. Wonderland it is.
Classic lines guide you through market walls adorned with bottled wines and glasses, then onto balsalmic vinegars, chocolate, glassware, and pasta imports. While waiting to be seated amongst the small 12 tables or 8 bistro stools at the bar, you are immediately drawn to the coffee bar and chalkboards showcasing the daily speicals.
The tables are arranged along the left side of the bistro which has an extended couch along the entire wall, then the tables, with opposing bistro chairs. It is so cozy it’s hard to explain; Vaudville recreates the definition of bistro. Comfy seating, pillows included, yet elegance is always present from the marble table tops to the soft French music playing all around you.
The menu itself is a production; although small, the fonts are playful and guide you from one Act to the next. Act I includes cheese boards, olive & creamy bean dips, and most impressive of all… Burrata.
My lunch choice was this beautiful burratta served with chargrilled asparagus with just a touch of white truffle oil, a light lemony dressed baby kale salad, and beautiful ripe grape tomatoes. The plate was gorgeous.
Along with my meal I ordered one of the three available red wines by the glass, which was recommended by my waitress. A deep flavorful Carmenere with a slight spice was the perfect match to the richness of the burrata.
The burrata itself was topped with himylana pink sea salt and a touch of black pepper with the panna cream inside bursting through it’s magical mozzerella pouch. The mozzerella was beautifully light and flavorful. The rich, creamy panna inside was likewise flavorful, although a touch too textured for my taste. Rather than being completely silky, there were bits of mozzerella as well, which added to the taste, but I prefer the simplicity of the creamy panna. Although the himylayn salt added a beautiful touch, I though it too much for the already natural slight saltiness of the cheese. The freshly ground black pepper was a nice touch though. Mixing bites of salad, tomato, and burrata was the perfect combination, and the grilled asparagus was a crisp jewel suprise to the whole dish. Beautiful to the eye and the taste buds, I have been craving the burrata again ever since leaving Vaudeville.
Act II entices you with daily specials ranging from Crawfish Etouffee to Buttermilk Fried Chicken. Vaudeville is open Wednesday – Saturday 8am-6pm, with Tapas Saturday night from 6pm-9pm, and a Monday night supper club by reservation only.
Act III captures your complete attention with soups, salads, sandwiches, and quiche. Soup & Quiche are served du Jour. Your choice of four sandwiches, Club, Ruben, French Dip, & Roasted Chicken, are served with house made chips and an organic salad.
Then for the Encore!! Pastries, desserts, cookies, coffee, cappuccino, espresso, tea, etc! Bring it on! What a perfect ending to the show; applause is deserved and encourage.
